Regenerating Ribbon
The Eastern Archipelago of Helsinki is a unique and culturally significant maritime environment. Currently, limited access to the islands hinders exploration. The Regenerating Ribbon proposes a low-impact design using local and sustainable wood to provide responsible recreation. The ribbon guides visitors, but also metamorphoses into modular structures to cater for particular island features, encouraging sustainable activities like walks and ecological awareness programmes. Accessible landing places and sustainable transportation options are considered. Color-coded signage inform visitors, and the adaptive architecture allows for evolution and preservation of this precious heritage. The project aims to foster respect for nature and inspire biodiversity preservation.
