Transversal Oulu
Transversal Oulu
Strategy _ The project is made up of four systems combined together, each one of them characterized by a specific productive purpose. The intersection of these systems allows to create a strong urban landscape that goes beyond the islands-in-the-forest concept, quite typical in this territory.
Viability _ The new neighborhood enhances a slow and eco-friendly mobility. A car sharing and bike sharing is provided, supported by an electric station net for automobile recharge. For the public transport is provided a new bus hub near the university campus.
Platforms _ The area between Oulu city and the university campus is characterized by a sequence of monofunctional platforms extracted from the forest. The new neighborhood wants to break off this system figuring out four principal systems combined together that create a complete urban environment.
Forest _ The forest is a predominant feature of Oulu’s landscape and in the project it becomes possibility of slow connection between a sequence of public building set within the platforms and the forest itself to allow a better relationship between this different worlds.
- Productive little economy _ The ground floor of the building becomes a fundamental element that hosts the public services, commercial services and collective spaces. The mix of student, families and workers ensures a 24/24h use of these spaces enhancing co-working offices, fab-labs, maker spaces in addition to neighborhood stores and sport equipments.
- Productive landscape _ The new neighborhood rises in the old housing area. We didn’t sacrificed the existing wood but instead our choice was to give it more value through a slow mobility net, principally for bikes, that allows the connection with buildings that host daily activities (the day-care garden or the sport equipments) positioned between the more compact urban environment and the nature.
- Productive sociality _ The principal limit of Kajonaru is the only presence of housing. At the same time wide public spaces are available but scarcely used. They could be easily colonized by small parassite buildings with collective functions and offices. The residential buildings with plan roofs have instead the possibility to host light structure for temporary housing on them.
- Productive future _ The link with the university is fundamental both for the development of the new neighborhood and for the connection with the neighborhood in the west side of the area. A new horizontal con
