Ariadne’s green thread

Hyvinkää is a small town fully integrated in the web of the Helsinki metropolis. Ariadne’s Green Thread proposes to reactivate the productivity of the city by a sensible and sustainable approach, using qualities of the landscape to enhance the city. The project aims to match building density to the scale of Hyvinkää. A high level of functional mix generates an expansion and a strengthening of the city center.

The project explores various building typologies in relation with nature and landscape. Instead of considering the railway as a physical and psychological limit in the town, the Green Thread ties itself around it to make it a core place of the city and the opportunity of connection. The train and bus station becomes central in this project, for the connection and for the fusion of urban and natural atmospheres.
