Forest farm
The history of Anttila including its current fall-off grants an exemplary character to the project: “Could it become a post-agrarian productive village?” The transformation is guided by the concept of sustainable food circle. We consider the proximity of the city and existing infrastructure, the site’s history and geography as starting points and suggest how a farm vocation can be made compatible with an urban lifestyle by superimposing two levels of scale. Three residential groups – open courtyard, rowhouses and apartment block – directly connected to food production, describe an east-west route. A perpendicular axis connects the exterior fields to a public courtyard with dedicated research, business and market units, to the site of the original manor, to a forest park on Lake Tuusula.
