Big Follies Garden

By observing the East Archipelago of Helsinki, it appears as a multitude of gardens floating on the Baltic Sea; expansive areas shrouded in nature with paths that are rarely seen, dotted with 20th century villas and small ease architecture.

Hence the interpretation of this place as “a Big Follies Garden”: the new Helsinki Archipelago is a network of elements that can be expanded and create a system of small and large interventions.

In order to identify the follies and the needs of the archipelago, a catalogue of architectures, based on a structural system whose principles are modularity, scalability and flexibility, was born.

The choice of opting for timber structures allow a delicate integration within the context, looking towards traditional Finnish construction methods.
