Vähäheikkilänkanava
This project proposes transforming Vähäheikkiläntie into a navigable canal—restoring lost waterways and creating a new stormwater system. Once a wet, fertile terrain shaped by natural flows, the area became fragmented by roads and industry, forcing water underground. Now, facing climate pressures, the proposal brings water back as infrastructure, ecology, and public space. A canal, wetlands, floodable forest, and backyard water paths form a resilient network. New buildings follow water dynamics and reuse principles, with housing integrated into nature. The project reconnects Turku to its maritime legacy and offers a forward-looking model for living with water.
I like those colours, but the building looks a bit out of context… and those boats? We are not Amsterdam….
