Recordings of our Kick-off Event on March the 6th are now available
The Lahti site was presented by Johanna Palomäki, the City Architect of Lahti 👉video recording.
At the Lahti Sports Center, the competition task is to develop a comprehensive concept for enhancing both competitive sports events and recreational activities for city residents. The unique natural landscape of Salpausselkä Ridge, the area’s cultural history, and the opportunity to integrate sports and leisure in the location next to the city center provide a strong foundation for planning. Competitors must also identify which ideas could be implemented in time for the 2029 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships🤩
“We are looking for a strong landscape and urban design concept that would make the Sports Center more versatile and visually striking”, says Johanna Palomäki,.
The Turku site was presented by Anri Linden, the Head of Detailed planning of the City of Turku 👉video recording. In Turku’s Vähäheikkilä district, the goal is to find solutions for diverse infill development in key areas of this small-scale and charming neighborhood. The area, located near Turku’s city center, is planned to accommodate housing for approximately 400 residents.
In addition, competitors are tasked with developing solutions for managing stormwater and floodwater along the 1.5 km long and narrow competition area. There is also an opportunity to explore and propose new uses for the area’s old industrial buildings.
“We want to celebrate water! Instead of channeling stormwater underground in the traditional way, we want to make it a visible element in Vähäheikkilä. The city has been considering the development of this area for years without results, and now we are looking for fresh and innovative ideas,” says Anri Linden.
