Hamlet is a word for a small settlement. We wanted to keep in thought to history and wake up sites potential as a small but lively post-agrarian productive village. Earlier Pajala village included two clusters of housing that created an idea about circular form with well-defined borders. A higher edge creates a protective and functional base (parking, production, common spaces) for smaller housing blocks as well as recognizable landmark. The circular form is also a metaphor for the circle of water and circular economy. New production is based on cultivation, art and science. Building heights and density gets lower towards the lake, the hearth of the site, where space is left for nature and recreational use. Home is not a house. It´s part of your personality, it is your story, your Hamlet.
